Printing by email
With Cirros Email Print you print by sending an email. You attach your document to a message, send it to your organisation's email print address, then collect the print at any Cirros device. You do not need a print driver or an app, so it works from a phone, a tablet, a Mac, a Chromebook or a laptop that is not on your network.
Before you start
- Get the address. You need the email print address your organisation gives you. It is different for each organisation. If you do not have it, ask your IT support.
- Know how you sign in at the device. You release the print at a Cirros device, so you need to be able to sign in there, for example with your PIN or card.
- Check it is switched on. Email Print is enabled for each organisation. If it is not available to you, ask your IT support.
Print by email
- Start a new email. Use the email account you normally sign in to at the device.
- Address it. Put the email print address your organisation gives you in the To box.
- Add your document. Attach the file you want to print. You can also send the email itself, to print the message.
- Send it. Cirros collects the email and turns the attachment into a print-ready document.
- Wait a moment. The job then appears in your own print queue. Nothing prints yet.
Common file types work. Documents and images are converted for you. If a file does not print as you expect, save it as a PDF and send that instead.
Release your print at the device
- Go to any Cirros device. You do not need to use a particular one.
- Sign in. Sign in at the device in the usual way.
- Select Print. Choose your job from your print queue.
- Release it. Choose your settings if the device asks, then select the green print icon.
Your document prints only when you are at the device, so it is never left in the tray for someone else to pick up. Even if someone else sends an email pretending to be you, they cannot collect your print, because release always needs your own sign-in.
Good to know
- Nothing to install. There is no driver or app to set up on your device.
- Your own queue. Jobs go to the queue of the person who sent the email.
- Guests. If you are a guest without an account, use a Job Code instead. See Guest and public printing.
If your print does not appear
| If | Do this |
|---|---|
| Your job is not in the queue | Wait a few minutes and check again. Large files take longer to prepare. |
| The email bounced | Check you used the exact email print address your organisation gave you. |
| The file will not convert | Save it as a PDF and send it again. |
| You still cannot see the job | Check you sent the email from the account you sign in with at the device. If it still does not appear, ask your IT support. |
