Cirros Ricoh Installer: quick start
The Cirros Ricoh Installer puts the Cirros apps on Ricoh IM-series devices and keeps a whole fleet on the latest version. This page is the short version: the steps you follow, and the path a rollout takes from start to finish. For every option in detail, see the Cirros Ricoh Installer: operator guide.
Quick start
- Launch the installer. Double-click
CirrosRicohInstaller.exe. It opens in your web browser athttp://localhost:8777. There is nothing to install, because the Java runtime is bundled with it. Keep the small console window open while you work. - Sign in. Type your name and select Continue. There is no password. Your name is recorded against everything you do.
- Add your devices. Select Add devices and paste a list, one device per line.
Each line can be a serial number, an IP address, or
serial,ip. Set the WIM username and password and the Remote/SDK password once, because they apply to every device you add. Then select Add devices. If you only have serial numbers, they still work: the installer finds the device by DNS. - Get the latest apps. In Settings → Application sources, add your Cirros download link and select Sync all, or tick Auto-sync. The newest packages are pulled in for you, so there is nothing to download by hand. A bundled set of apps also works straight away.
- Install or update. On the Updates screen, select Install all updates in the banner, or tick the devices you want and select Install N selected.
- Pilot one device first. Leave Test on one device first ticked. The installer provisions one device, then waits for you to confirm it worked before it rolls out to the rest.
- Let it run. On each device the installer removes the old print software, installs the Cirros suite (including the card and PIN login), reboots and verifies the result. You can watch a live progress checklist. When it has finished, the device shows Up to date.
- Manage day to day. Right-click any device for its toolbox: Test connection, Read installed apps, Verify card reader, Reboot or Uninstall. Everything you do is recorded in History.
The Updates dashboard. The tiles on the Updates screen show what needs attention. The action bar installs, updates or removes Cirros across the fleet.
Check the network path first. The PC running the installer must be able to reach the devices. If your printers are on a separate VLAN, run the installer from a machine that can reach that network. The operator guide explains how to test this.
The workflow from sign-in to a finished fleet
This is the end-to-end path of a rollout.
- Open the installer. Run
CirrosRicohInstaller.exeand sign in with your name. - Add your devices. Paste serial numbers or IP addresses, and set the credentials once.
- Sync the latest packages. Use Settings → Application sources and Sync all.
- Check for updates. See which devices show Update available.
- Choose what to install. Use Install all updates or Install selected.
- Pilot one device. Test on one device and check that it succeeded. If it did, roll out to the rest.
- Review the result. Every device should be on the latest Cirros. The whole run is logged in History and Reports.
What the installer does on each device
You do not need to do any of this by hand. The installer does it on every device, automatically.
- Remove old print software. Any old or competitor print software on the device is removed first.
- Install the Cirros suite. This is Authentication, Launcher, Copy, Print and Scan.
- Reboot and verify. The installer reboots the device and checks that every app is present.
Any time, on any device
Right-click a device for the live toolbox. The actions include Test connection, Read installed apps, Verify card reader, Set toner save off and Reboot.
To take Cirros off devices, tick them and use Remove Cirros, or use Uninstall all Cirros on a single device. It is the same automatic, watched process in reverse.
Planning a rollout
Each device takes a few minutes because of the reboots, and the installer can work on several devices at once. See Ricoh installer deployment timings to estimate how long a site will take.
If something goes wrong
- Installer problems. The troubleshooting table in the operator guide covers the common causes.
- Device status shows "Admin password defined incorrectly". See Resolving "Admin password defined incorrectly" on Ricoh devices.
- Support needs device logs. See Sending your Ricoh system logs to Cirros.
- Still stuck. Email servicedesk@cirros.net.
