Device pre-registration
Device pre-registration lets you register a device with Cirros before it ships. When the device is later powered on and connects at the customer site, it registers and provisions itself against the correct customer. There is no manual setup or engineer sign-in at the device.
What pre-registration is
You give Cirros a device's details in advance. Cirros binds the device to the right customer before it is installed. This is the recommended route for multi-device rollouts.
It works for Canon and HP devices. The install guide for each make covers the steps that still apply to every device:
How it works
- Send the batch. Before the devices ship or are installed, send Cirros the device details for the batch.
- Cirros approves it. Cirros stages the batch, then checks and approves it before it goes live.
- Devices register themselves. When each device is powered on and connects at the customer site, it registers against the right customer and is ready to use.
What Cirros needs for each batch
| Item | Detail |
|---|---|
| Batch reference | Your own reference for the shipment |
| Company Code | The customer's Cirros Company Code |
| Device type | The device type for the batch |
| Serial numbers | One row per device |
Template. Complete the Cirros device batch template, with one row per device, and return it to servicedesk@cirros.net. You can send several batches, and re-send an updated file if serial numbers change.
What you still need to do
Pre-registration replaces only the registration step. The other installation steps must still be completed on every device:
- Canon. Install the CA certificate and the Cirros application, normally during the PDI build. Only the registration step (section 3 of the Canon guide) is replaced.
- HP. Install the CA certificate, prepare the device, connect it to HP Command Center and deploy Cirros. Only the registration step (section 5 of the HP guide) is replaced.
If a device was not pre-registered, or is not recognised when it connects, it shows the registration code screen instead. You then register it manually, as set out in the install guide for that make.
Why it helps
- Faster rollouts. There is no registration step to complete at each device on site.
- Fewer errors. Each device is bound to the right customer in advance, and every batch is checked before it goes live.
- Visibility. Cirros can confirm the status of any batch on request: staged, ready or provisioned.
For suppliers and PDI centres
If you supply Cirros-managed devices, or build them in a PDI centre, you can pre-register them so they arrive ready to use. Send your device serial numbers ahead of deployment and Cirros will pre-register them.
- Collect the details. For each batch, gather your batch reference, the customer's Company Code, the device type and the serial numbers.
- Complete the template. Fill in the Cirros device batch template, with one row per device.
- Return it to Cirros. Send the completed template to servicedesk@cirros.net. You can include several batches in one go.
- Wait for confirmation. Cirros checks and approves the batch. Ask us at any time for its status.
- Ship as normal. Make sure each device still has the certificate and Cirros application installed, as above.
If the serial numbers change after you have sent a batch, send an updated file. If you would like help getting started, contact the Cirros Service Desk at servicedesk@cirros.net.
