Printer messages and errors
This page explains the messages you may see on a Cirros managed printer and what to do about them. Many are the printer telling you it needs attention, for example it is out of paper, rather than a fault with Cirros.
Common messages
| Message | What it usually means | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Printer unavailable | The printer itself is not ready: out of paper, the wrong paper size, or a tray or toner warning. | Expand the top bar on the Cirros menu, tap the warning icons, and clear the problem (for example add paper). A restart clears a stuck queue. |
| Offline | The printer is asleep, switched off, or cannot reach the cloud. | Check it is powered on and awake. If it stays offline, your IT team can test its connection from the device admin screen. |
| Download failed | The job never uploaded from the computer. | See My print did not come out. |
| Unable to resolve host | The printer cannot look up the Cirros servers (a DNS, proxy or firewall problem). | Your IT team should check the printer's DNS settings and that the Cirros cloud is reachable. |
A device can keep its place in Cirros if its network address changes, Cirros identifies the device itself. If a printer has been moved to a new network, your IT team should check its DNS and clear any static address left over from the old one.
"An appropriate application license is not installed or has expired"
This is the Cirros application on the printer. Restarting the printer does not fix it, the application has to be reloaded remotely by Cirros. It usually happens because the printer has been off the internet for a long period, so check its network connection as well. Report it through your IT team, with the printer's serial number.
A blank screen, or the manufacturer's screen instead of Cirros
- Restart the printer.
- If it asks which launcher to use, choose Cirros Launcher and select Always.
- If Cirros still does not appear, the application needs redeploying. Report it through your IT team with the serial number. This often follows a power cut or a firmware update.
What to report
When you report a device problem, always include the printer's serial number and the exact message shown on the panel. Your IT team can then raise it with Cirros if it needs a remote fix.
