For deployment engineers: send Cirros your device serial numbers ahead of deployment and we'll pre-register them, so devices arrive at site ready to use.

Overview

This guide covers deploying the Cirros application to an HP MFD through HP Command Center. You install the Cirros CA certificate, prepare the device (firmware, Web Services and Workpath), connect it to HP Command Center, deploy Cirros, and register the device with Cirros. For rollouts, devices can be pre-registered with Cirros so they register themselves on arrival.

Files and codes. An HP Command Center account is needed to claim the device and deploy Cirros. The CA certificate and the company code are supplied by Cirros. Always use the files and codes issued for your tenant.

Before you begin

  • HP Command Center account. Needed to claim the device and deploy Cirros.
  • Files from Cirros. The Cirros CA certificate and the company code.
  • Firmware. The device firmware must be FS5.7.1 or above. You check and update this in section 2.
  • Network access. The device must be able to reach HP Command Center and the Cirros cloud. If the site firewall needs configuring, Cirros can supply the current list of endpoints on request from servicedesk@cirros.net.

Provisioning: pre-register devices before they ship New

Cirros supports device pre-registration, so devices can be bound to the right customer before they are installed. When a pre-registered device is powered on and connects at the customer site, it registers and provisions itself automatically, with no registration step at the device. This is the recommended route for multi-device rollouts. See Device pre-registration for the full process, including a section for suppliers and PDI centres.

How it works

  1. Send the batch. Before the devices ship or are installed, send Cirros the device details for the batch.
  2. Cirros approves it. Cirros stages the batch, then checks and approves it before it goes live.
  3. Devices register themselves. When each device is powered on and connects at the customer site, it auto-registers against the right customer and is ready to use.

What Cirros needs for each batch

ItemDetail
Batch referenceYour own reference for the shipment
Company CodeThe customer's Cirros Company Code
Device typeThe device type for the batch
Serial numbersOne row per device

Template. Complete the Cirros device batch template (one row per device) and return it to servicedesk@cirros.net. You can send several batches, and re-send an updated file if serials change.

Cirros can confirm the status of any batch (staged, ready, provisioned) on request.

Still required. Pre-registration replaces the registration step in section 5 only. Sections 1 to 4 (certificate, device preparation, Command Center connection and Cirros deployment) must still be completed on every device.

1. Install the CA certificate

  1. Log in to the device's web page (Embedded Web Server) as administrator.
  2. Open certificate management. Select Security (top), then Certificate Management (left).
  3. Install the certificate. Select Choose File, browse to the certificate file supplied by Cirros, and select Open to install it.

2. Prepare the device

Complete these on the device's web page, logged in as administrator.

  1. Check the firmware. Go to Troubleshooting → Firmware Upgrade and check the firmware level. It must be FS5.7.1 or above. Update it if required.
  2. Enable Web Services. Go to HP Web Services → Web Services Setup and enable Web Services.
  3. Enable Workpath. Go to HP Web Services → HP JetAdvantage and enable Workpath.
  4. Add the Command Center icon. Go to General → Home Screen Customization and add the HP Command Center icon to the display.
  5. Check the time and date. Make sure both are set correctly.

Menu names vary. Wording and menu paths can differ slightly by HP model and firmware. If an option isn't exactly where described, look for the equivalent in the same area of the web page.

3. Connect the device to HP Command Center

On the device control panel

  1. Open Command Center. Select the Command Center application, then Configure.
  2. Note the code. Write down the code displayed. It authorises the device between HP Command Center and the MFD.

On a PC: claim the device

  1. Open the claim page. Go to hpcommandcenter.com/claim and log in with your Command Center account.
  2. Verify. Enter the code from the device, then select Verify.

Back on the device control panel

  1. Add the account. Select the account from the drop-down box, then select Add, then Exit.

Confirm the device has synced

  1. Open the accounts page. Go to hpcommandcenter.com/accounts/main and log in if required.
  2. Select the account. Select Accounts, then the relevant account.
  3. Find the device. Select Devices, enter the device serial number and search.
  4. Check the sync status. Select the information (i) button.
  5. Wait for sync. Make sure the sync has completed before continuing, then close the box.

4. Deploy Cirros from HP Command Center

  1. Open the install option. On the Solutions page, select Manage, then Install / Update.
  2. Select the device, then Next.
  3. Install. Select the target device, then Install.
  4. Allow it to sync. Give the device 5 minutes or more to sync with Command Center. You can also force a new device sync.
  5. Confirm. Select Install / Update, then Done.
  6. Check the status of the software installation in Command Center.

5. Register the Cirros application

Pre-registered devices. If the device was pre-registered (see Provisioning), it registers itself when it first connects at site and you can skip this section. If a device is not pre-registered, or is not recognised, it shows the registration code screen instead, and you register it manually as below.

Once the Cirros application is loaded, the device downloads its settings from the Cirros cloud. If that fails, or the settings need refreshing, you can force an update from the admin screen.

Get the registration code from the device

  1. Open the admin screen. While the welcome screen is showing, tap the top right corner of the screen repeatedly.
  2. Note the code. Write down the 8-digit code shown next to the QR code.

Register on the Cirros website

  1. Open the registration page. On a PC or laptop, go to the address shown on the control panel, core.cirros.net/registration, or scan the QR code.
  2. Enter the company code and select Submit.
  3. Confirm the details. When prompted, confirm the company code, then enter the password.
  4. Set the location. Under Location of the device, enter the department or building it is going in, then select Submit.
  5. Check the panel. The device screen should change to the full Cirros application.
  6. Test. Log in at the device and run a test with your credentials.

Done. The device is now installed and registered.

Troubleshooting

Cirros won't deploy from Command Center

Check the device shows as synced in Command Center, that the firmware is FS5.7.1 or above, and that Web Services and Workpath are both enabled (section 2). Then force a new device sync and retry the install.

A licence error shows on the home screen

Reload the Cirros application through HP Command Center (section 4). Rebooting the device will not clear a licence error.

The device didn't pick up its settings

Use the admin screen (section 5) to force a settings update, then repeat the website registration if the panel still doesn't show the full Cirros application.
