Printing from Outlook, Edge and Office apps

Yes, you can print from Edge, Outlook and the Office apps with the Cirros app. Edge works directly, just like Safari. Outlook attachments and Word, Excel and PowerPoint documents take one easy extra step, because those Microsoft apps use their own sharing rather than the standard iOS share options. In every case you print with the Share button and the Send to Cirros option.

This guide assumes you have already installed and set up the Cirros app. If you have not, see Cirros iOS Print App first.

Microsoft Edge (web pages and PDFs)

Edge shares through the standard iOS share options, so Cirros appears straight away.

  1. Open the web page, or a PDF, in Edge.
  2. Tap the Share button (the square with an upward arrow).
  3. Choose Send to Cirros, check the preview, then tap Send.

A web page is captured and prepared for printing automatically, exactly as it is from Safari.

Outlook (emails and attachments)

Outlook uses its own in-app sharing and does not always offer a document straight to Cirros. The reliable route is through the Files app, which takes a moment the first time and is then second nature.

  1. In Outlook, open the email and tap the attachment.
  2. Tap the attachment's own Share or More menu and choose Save to Files, then pick a location (for example On My iPhone).
  3. Open the Files app, find the file, and tap it to open it.
  4. Tap Share, choose Send to Cirros, then tap Send.

Files saved in OneDrive also appear in the Files app under OneDrive, so you can print them the same way without downloading them first.

Word, Excel and PowerPoint

Office documents are sent to Cirros as a PDF. The quickest way is to export them straight from the Office app.

  1. Open the document in Word, Excel or PowerPoint.
  2. Tap Share or Send a Copy, and choose PDF as the format.
  3. Choose Send to Cirros, check the preview, then tap Send.

If you would rather keep the file to hand, use Save a Copy or Save to Files first, then open it from the Files app and share it to Cirros as in the Outlook section above.

If "Send to Cirros" is not shown

The first time you share from a new app, Cirros may be hidden further along the row of options.

  1. In the Share panel, swipe along the row of app icons to the end.
  2. Tap More (or Edit) and switch Cirros on, or drag it to the top of the list.
  3. It then stays available every time you share.

Good to know

  • The extra step for Outlook and Office is down to how those Microsoft apps share on iOS, not a limit of the Cirros app. Any app that offers the standard iOS Share panel can send to Cirros.
  • This behaviour is the same on the TestFlight trial build and on the App Store release.
  • Your job then waits securely in your Cirros print queue. Go to any Cirros managed printer, sign in the way you normally do, and release it. Nothing prints until you are there to collect it.

Still stuck on a particular document? Save or export it as a PDF first, then share that to Cirros. A PDF always works. If you need a hand, contact your local IT support or your Cirros contact.
