Cirros iOS Print App
The Cirros app lets you send documents, photos and web pages from your iPhone or iPad to Cirros, ready to collect at any Cirros managed printer. You set it up once with your work email, then print anything using the iPhone or iPad Share button and the Send to Cirros option.
What you need
- An iPhone or iPad running a current version of iOS or iPadOS.
- A Cirros account, this is your normal work email.
- During the trial, the invitation link to install the app through Apple's TestFlight (sent to you separately).
Install the app (trial)
- Install the free TestFlight app from the App Store, if you do not already have it.
- Open the invitation link you were sent. It opens in TestFlight.
- Tap Install (or Accept then Install). The Cirros app is added to your home screen.
Once the app is generally released, it installs from the App Store in the normal way and these TestFlight steps are no longer needed.
Set up the app (once)
- Open the Cirros app. You will see the Send to Cirros welcome screen.
- Tap Enrol with email.
- Enter your work email and tap Enrol. Follow any sign-in prompt to confirm it is you.
- When you see Ready, Sending to [your organisation], you are set up. You only do this once; it is remembered the next time you open the app.
From the Ready screen you can tap Run a test print to check everything is working, and Un-enrol if you ever need to remove or switch the account.
Print a document
You print straight from whatever app the document is in, there is no need to open the Cirros app each time.
- Open the item you want to print, for example a PDF in Files, a photo in Photos, or a page in Safari.
- Tap the Share button (the square with an upward arrow).
- Choose Send to Cirros from the share options.
- Check the document shown, then tap Send.
- The Cirros print ticket appears, showing the page count. Confirm it to send the job to your print queue, then close the ticket.
| You can share | Notes |
|---|---|
| PDF documents | Sent as-is. |
| Photos and images | Prepared for printing automatically. |
| Web pages | From Safari, the page is captured and prepared for printing. |
| Office and other documents | Word, Excel, PowerPoint and files shared from Outlook or OneDrive are sent as a PDF, see the next section. |
Printing from Microsoft and Office apps
Send to Cirros appears wherever an app shares a document through the standard iOS share sheet, which is why it works directly from Files, Photos and Safari. Some Microsoft apps, such as Outlook and the OneDrive app, use their own sharing menus and do not always offer a document straight to Cirros, and Word, Excel and PowerPoint files are sent as a PDF. Either of these routes prints them easily:
- Through the Files app. Your OneDrive files appear in the Files app, and an attachment in Outlook can be saved with Save to Files. Open the file from Files, tap Share, and choose Send to Cirros.
- As a PDF from Office. In Word, Excel or PowerPoint, tap Share or Send a Copy and choose PDF, then choose Send to Cirros.
If you do not see Send to Cirros among the share options, tap More (or Edit) at the end of the row of app icons and switch Cirros on. It will then always be there.
See also Printing from Outlook, Edge and Office apps for step by step detail on each of these apps.
Collect your print
Your job waits securely in your Cirros print queue until you release it. Go to any Cirros managed printer, sign in the way you normally do (for example your PIN / Passcode or card), and release the job from your print list. Nothing prints until you are there to collect it.
Tips and troubleshooting
| If | Do this |
|---|---|
| "Send to Cirros" is not in the Share menu | Swipe along the row of app icons and tap More, then turn Cirros on. If it is still missing for a particular file, that file type is not directly supported, save it as a PDF and share that. |
| You are asked to enrol when sharing | Open the Cirros app and complete the one-time setup above, then try sharing again. |
| Enrolment will not complete | Check your work email is entered correctly and that you have a Cirros account. If it still fails, contact your IT support or your Cirros contact. |
| The app stops opening (during the trial) | TestFlight builds expire after a period. Open TestFlight and update to the latest build when prompted. |
