How Cirros works
Cirros is cloud print management. You print the way you always have, with File then Print, and your job is held securely in the cloud until you release it at a printer. Nothing prints until you are there to collect it. This page is a short orientation; the other guides in this section cover each step in detail.
What happens when you print
- You submit a job. From any application, choose File then Print and select Send to Cirros (called Send to GovPrint in GovPrint organisations).
- The job is held in the cloud. It waits securely in your personal print queue. It is not sent to any printer yet.
- You release it at a printer. Go to any Cirros managed printer, sign in, and release the job from your list. Only then does it print.
Because jobs follow you rather than a particular printer, you can submit from one place and collect from another. This is often called Follow Me printing.
The print destinations
Everything is sent from the same print dialog. Depending on how your organisation is set up, the Cirros client offers one or more destinations:
| Destination | What it does |
|---|---|
| Print to Cloud | Sends the job to your secure cloud queue to release at any enrolled printer with your card, PIN / Passcode or mobile app. This is the core Follow Me experience. |
| Print to Office | Routes the job straight to an office printer, for quick jobs that do not need to be held in a queue. |
| Send to Print Room | Submits the job to the print room for production, with the full job configuration screen for media, finishing and delivery. |
| Direct Print | Sends the job to a specific named printer without queueing or cloud routing, for local or specialist devices. |
Before you submit, the Cirros print ticket shows a page-by-page preview and the cost, and lets you set colour, duplex, copies, paper and finishing. See The Cirros print ticket.
How you release a job
At the printer you prove who you are, then pick the jobs to print. You can sign in by:
- Tapping your ID card on the card reader, where one is fitted. See Register your ID card at a printer.
- Entering your PIN / Passcode, with your email address as the username. See Printer PINs.
- Using the Cirros mobile app, where mobile release is enabled.
Where to go next
- Signing in to Cirros, for your first sign-in and getting your PIN.
- Register your ID card at a printer.
- Security and data residency, for how Cirros keeps jobs secure.
